A backyard recession garden will save you a lot more money than you may realize, plus you'll have peace of mind and improved food quality!

Yes, many of us are now willing to get our hands a little dirty to plant our own recession vegetable gardens.

So, below, I freely share my very best Easy Garden tips from my garden in Lancaster County, PA to help you. I even share the tips I got from my Amish neighbors. Enjoy! (That's me in the hat.)

Backyard vegetable gardening is a fine American tradition and Victory Gardens were very popular during World War II.

Victory Gardens were modeled after a vegetable garden that First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt planted at the White House in 1943. Victory gardens were intended to encourage self-sufficiency, savings and good health. Reasons that are still valid here in 2009! And did you take note that Michelle Obama has now set up her own White House vegetable garden?

At the height of the Victory Garden movement during WWII, 40% of American fresh produce was grown in backayards. Wow. Burpee Seed company claims that every $50 spent on gardening supplies can multiply into $1,250.00 of produce during a season.

Here's how I can help you grow the very best produce in your own backyard, even if you've never gardened before:

If you need advice about the best place to layout your vegetable garden, please read my Vegetable Gardening page. This page contains a lot of good information for the beginner gardener.

There are two major types of backyard gardens: flat bed or raised bed. Please read my Vegetable Garden Design page which clearly tells you the pro's and con's of a flat bed versus raised bed garden. You'll be able to choose the one that's best for you!
